The beautiful, historical Pula. For the ones that don't know it (yet) - this is one of the most historic towns in Croatia. Pula is a vibrant cultural hub and an excellent starting point for your next sailing adventure.

Yes, Pula does it like no other. Why?

Pula is nestled in a verdant landscape and offers a beautiful blend of history and nature.

Its tree-lined streets provide a refreshing contrast to its historical landmarks, making it a perfect spot for both history buffs and nature lovers. It's also a major port and shipbuilding hub, as picturesque as it is industrious.

Let's not forget that Pula has the iconic Roman amphitheatre—the best-preserved Roman colosseum in the world—an exquisite backdrop that uplifts any event.

Pula is also known for hosting numerous events throughout the year, one of which is the Pula Film Festival, held in this very same Arena. It is one of the most celebrated events, attracting filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts worldwide.

Why Visit? Pula is an ideal destination for your next adventure. Its unique blend of history, significance and natural beauty creates an unforgettable atmosphere, perfect for exploring both on land and by sea.

If you're into sailing, history, or just enjoying beautiful landscapes, Pula is a must-yachting destination!

Our tip: Indulging in local cuisine is a highlight of any trip to Pula.

Don't miss out on fresh seafood dishes like black risotto and grilled octopus. Try Istrian specialities such as truffles and prosciutto.

Also, do not miss out on provisioning your yacht with local ingredients. Local markets like Pula Market offer fresh produce, seafood, and regional products. Stock up on olive oil, cheese, and local wines for gourmet onboard dining.

Pula's weather? Almost perfect.

Located at the south part of the Istrian Peninsula, Pula is also the largest city in Istria County, with around 52,220 residents.

Pula covers about 53.8 km² (20.8 m²) and is 30 m (100ft) above sea level. It is known for its stunning coastal scenery.

To make the most of your sailing trip to Pula, you must, of course, get to know the weather. Pula has a classic Mediterranean climate, which influences its weather patterns throughout the year - ensuring that even in the height of summer, sea breezes can provide some relief from the heat.

Summer weather in Pula (June to August)

Summers are hot and dry, with average temperatures from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). Occasionally, temperatures rise above 30°C (86°F), especially in July and August.

Summer precipitation is minimal, making it ideal for yachting. The region averages about 2-3 rainy days per month.

Pula enjoys long, sunny days, with up to 12 hours of sunshine per day in July, providing ample daylight for sailing and exploring.

Spring in Pula (March to May)

Spring sees gradually warming temperatures and decreasing rainfall. March can still be quite cool and wet, but temperatures can reach 20°C (68°F) by May with fewer rainy days. However, spring offers a unique sailing experience.

Autumn in Pula (September to November)

Early autumn remains warm, especially in September, with temperatures around 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). However, by November, temperatures drop, and rainfall increases, signalling the transition to winter.

Winter in Pula (December to February)

Winters are mild compared to continental Europe. Daytime temperatures generally range from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F), but it can feel cooler due to the humidity and wind.

Pula's winters are wetter, with November and December being the rainiest months. Pula averages about 9-11 rainy days per month during this period.

The winter months can also bring stronger winds.

If you plan on sailing from Pula, we recommend Marina Tehnomont Veruda. This marina acts as a natural shelter with 19 piers and 630 berths.

The best time to sail the Istrian peninsula and Pula is from late May to early October, when the weather is warmer and more stable. July and August are peak months, but the shoulder seasons of May-June and September-October offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Our tip: Always check the local weather forecasts and maritime conditions before setting sail. The Adriatic Sea can experience sudden weather changes, so being informed is vital to a yachting trip that takes full advantage of the area's favourable conditions.

Want a proper adventure in Pula? Choose the right yacht.

As we all know, selecting the perfect yacht is crucial if you want your vacation to be a success.

But anyway, to make an informed choice, you must know all the options available.

When chartering a yacht in Pula, you have various options, each offering a unique experience tailored to different preferences and needs.

Sailing yachts provide a traditional and eco-friendly sailing experience. They rely on wind power and offer a serene and leisurely way to explore the coast.

These vessels are ideal for those who enjoy a more hands-on sailing adventure and appreciate the tranquillity of moving with the wind.

Motor yachts are ideal for those seeking both speed and leisure. Powered by strong engines, they allow for quick travel between locations and more flexible itineraries.

They are ideal for those who prioritize comfort and the ability to cover more ground (or water) quickly.

Bigger, more luxurious motor yachts are usually equipped with high-end amenities, air conditioning, sophisticated entertainment systems, and often a crew to cater to your needs.

Catamarans offer stability, and their dual-hull design provides more space than traditional single-hull yachts.

They are great for families, groups, or anyone seeking a spacious vessel for the unmatchable sailing experience.

Catamarans typically feature large outdoor areas, multiple cabins, and expansive living spaces, making them perfect for socializing and enjoying more comfortably.

So, how do you choose the right yacht for your next adventure in Pula?

Simple.

  1. Consider the size of your group. The number of people you are travelling with determines the size of the vessel and the number of cabins. Ensure the yacht can comfortably accommodate everyone. Catamarans are excellent for larger groups due to their spacious layouts.
  2. Different yachts have varying costs. Motor yachts may be a more expensive due to their fuel consumption or luxurious features. However, they are also great for exploring multiple destinations quickly, as they have faster travel capabilities.
  3. Think about your preferred activities. A motor yacht might be best if you plan on island hopping and covering more ground. Motor yachts are great for exploring more in less time, while sailing yachts offer a more relaxed, hands-on sailing experience. Catamarans are ideal for social gatherings and enjoying spacious comfort on the water.

Want to do a spot of fishing? Take care of the regulations.

When sailing around Pula, it would be a shame not to throw the hook and catch some fish for lunch as the waters are rich with fish like sea bass, bream, and mackerel, making it a paradise for fishing enthusiasts.

You can fish directly from your yacht or join local fishing charters to guide you to the best spots.

A tip: In Pula, as in the rest of Croatia, you cannot fish freely without proper permits. Recreational fishing in the Adriatic Sea requires a fishing license, which can be obtained for different durations (daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly) from authorized sources, such as local tourist offices, fishing associations, and online platforms. These permits ensure sustainable fishing practices and help protect marine life.
